Cytometers
Analyzers
BDFACS Canto (Under Maintenance)
- Load 5mL tubes, a carousel of up to 40 5mL tubes, 96 or 384 well-plates
- Lasers: 488nm blue, 633nm red
- Detectors: 4 from blue, 2 from red
Designed for research use, the otional BD High Throughput Sampler (HTS) provides fully automated and rapid sample acquisition that can speed through a microtiter plate in less than 15 minutes, with less than 1% sample carryover. In high-throughput mode, fast acquisition speed is achieved by synchronizing two high-precision pumps for sample miing, sample injection, and probe washing. Standard-throughput mode can be selected for acquisition of larger sample volumes. The HTS supports standard 96 and 384-well plates. It is operated using BD FACSDiva software, allowing users to define customized delivery protocols, mixing, wash, and analysis parameters.

Sorters
BDFACS Aria (Under Maintenance)
- Load 5mL tubes or 15mL conical tubes
- Lasers: 375nm near UV, 405nm violet, 488nm blue, 633nm red
- Detectors: 2 from near UV, 3 from violet, 5 from blue, 3 from red
The BD FACSAria flow cytometer is the first fixed-alignment benchtop highspeed cell sorter. The instrument can be operated at varied pressures and can acquire up to 70,000 events per second. With its fixed-optics design and digital electronics, the BD FACSAria enables multicolor analysis of up to 11 fluorescent markers and two scatter parameters at a time. Sample chilling unit allows sample cooling during acquisition as well as during collection. The Aria is capable of sorting of up to 4 populations into 5mL tubes or 2 populations into 15mL tubes simultaneously. The Automated Cell Deposition Unit (ACDU) can sort any plate configuration 96-well and below.
BDFACS Melody
- Load 5mL tubes or 15mL conical tubes
- Lasers: 488nm blue, 561nm yellow-green, 633nm red
- Detectors: 3 from blue, 4 from yellow-green, 3 from red
Designed for research use, the BDFACS Melody has streamlined workflow, shortened learning curves, while enhancing speed and performance through automation. The Melody’s ability to anticipate potential errors will allow for increased work efficiency, ultimately allowing the facility to support more users simultaneously. Users of all levels can be trained and trusted to operate the high-throughput sorter. This convenience will help the Flow Cytometry Facility at SDSU to increase hands on training and experience.
